Dorian was raised in Ontario however has lived in Esquimalt with her military husband Colin and twin daughters, Olivia and Georgia since 2001. Dorian was stay-at-home parent who planned to re-enter the (paid) working world when her daughters entered kindergarten. Although she had many years experience in the social service field, her plan was to find employment that was fulfilling both as a professional and as a parent. As fate has it, RSF was looking for someone to manage both the Foundation and the WITS Programs. Dorian has been the Manager of the Rock Solid Foundation since 2006.

Dorian has a degree from McMaster University as well as courses in Non-Profit management from Ryerson University in Toronto.

Brent Dobbie
President

Brent has lived in Victoria since 1980, when his family moved here from Winnipeg, Manitoba. He attended Fairburn Elementary, Arbutus Jr. Secondary and Mount Douglas Senior Secondary schools in Gordon Head. Brent was active in hockey, baseball and basketball while growing up and developed a passion for children and sport. He has been involved with sport in his professional life since 1992 where he worked with National Hockey School and Puckmasters Hockey training centre helping young athletes develop their skills. In 1998, he was the Director of the USABA 15 & Under World Series of Baseball at Lambrick Park. Brent worked at the Director of Public Relations & Community Events for the Victoria Grizzlies (Salsa) Jr. A. Hockey Club for two seasons (1998-99 & 1999-2000). In 2000, Brent moved to the University of Victoria Vikes Athletic Department, where he is currently the Development & Alumni Relations Officer.

Brent is currently the Vice-President of the Victoria International Running Society (operating the Times Colonist 10K and the Victoria International Track Classic) and is the Chair of the Sport Development Committee for SportHost Victoria. Brent has been a member of the Board of Directors with the Rock Solid Foundation since 2004 and has been the President of the Foundation since 2006. He lives in Victoria with his wife Terra, their two daughters Mackenzie and Dawson and he spends his free time playing hockey and golf.

 

Tom Woods

 

Tom Woods
Vice President

Tom is one of the founders of the Rock Solid Foundation and a resident of Esquimalt, home of RSF. Tom worked in the oil patch in Fort St. John, logging on Vancouver Island and in the shipyard as a rigger assistant before becoming a member of the Esquimalt Police Department in 1989. In 2003 he transferred to the Esquimalt Fire Department where he is currently a first-class firefighter. A long-term member of both the Canadian National Rugby team and also the Victoria Shamrocks Lacrosse Club, Tom spends time volunteering with Kidsport, the University of Victoria Youth and Society Research Centre, and the Kids Help Phone, the BC Police Youth Network, the Rock Solid Foundation and coaching youth rugby.

He possesses an MBA from Royal Roads University with a specialty in Human Resource Management and a special interest in organizational change management. He still lives in Esquimalt with his wife Heidi and their twin daughters Olivia and Delaney and younger daughter Eliza.

 

Dr. Bonnie Leadbeater

Bonnie Leadbeater, Ph D is a professor of psychology who joined the University of Victoria in 1997. She is also Codirector of the BC Child and Youth Health Research Network. She is dedicated to working with the community to improve child health and well-being and she received a Leadership Victoria Award in 2008 for her work linking university and community initiatives. Dr. Leadbeater’s areas of research expertise include depression in adolescence, resilience among high-risk and marginalized youth, and the prevention of peer victimization. She is co-editor of several books including Resilience in children, families and communities: Linking context to intervention and policy. NY: Kluwer Academic Press (2004, with Ray Peters and Robert McMahon); Ethics in Community-Based Research with Children and Youth. University of Toronto (2006, with Elizabeth Banister, Cecilia Benoit, Mikael Jansson, Anne Marshall, and Ted Riecken). Urban Girls Revisited: Building Strengths, New York University Press (2007, with Niobe Way).

 

David Valentine

 

David Valentine
Title

David comes to RSF with a work history rich in varied experiences. From serving as a Deputy Commanding Officer in the military to being a coroner and police officer in Victoria, BC, David has served the public for nearly half a century. David now works as District Superintendent of BC Ambulance Services with a secondment as liaison to the 2010 Olympic Committee. The loss of his son Paul in 2002 to a violent youth crime made clear the need for youth violence prevention thus bringing David and his richness of expertise to the Rock Solid Foundation. In addition to his professional commitments and the Rock Solid Foundation, David spends time coaching and refereeing youth rugby, the Paul Valentine Memorial Basketball Foundation and Abbeyfield-DeMazzey House.

Jane Penn

 

Jane Penn
Director

Jane is the Vice-Principal at Happy Valley Elementary School in Sooke, BC. She has been in the teaching profession for 25 years having taught in various locales in BC as well as the Philippines. Jane has been teaching Fine Arts for the past 6 years and been actively involved with recording artists Holly Arntzen. Paul Hann, and Norman Foote performing songs, recording CD's and writing songs (some for the WITS Program). Jane has been involved in coaching soccer, volleyball, track and field for most of her teaching career.

Jane lives on Vancouver Island with her two children, a son 13 and a daughter 17. Jane has been training, riding and showing horses for 35 years. When not riding, she spends time with her husband Nigel, (a pilot for Westjet) sailing their 26ft Columbia around the Gulf Islands.

Ferris

Ferris Moxam
Secretary/Treasurer

Ferris came to the Rock Solid Foundation as a summer co-op student from the University of Victoria in 2007. After completing a dedicated and successful workterm, Ferris was asked to apply to serve on the Board of Directors. Ferris will complete her education with a degree in psychology with the intention of pursuing an additional (masters) degree in clinical counselling. As well as attending university and serving on the RSF Board, Ferris volunteers on a local help line.
