WITS LEADS Program
The WITS LEADS Program has been developed for grades 4 to 6 students as an extension of the WITS Program with an added problem-solving/leadership component. The program helps children solve peer conflicts in peaceful ways by considering others’ perspectives and by using problem solving skills to resolve conflict situations. Children learn about different types of aggression and the role of bystanders in conflicts. Children in the WITS LEADS Program are encouraged to identify and solve peer conflict situations based on five problem-solving steps:
- Look & Listen
- Explore Points of View
- Act
- Did it Work?
- Seek Help
Each teacher will have their own manual containing curriculum with activity suggestions and other resources to aid in teaching the LEADS strategy. The school will also be sent a visual reminder gift for each LEADS student (pencil, toque, etc.) which can be distributed by the teacher at an appropriate time.
