This
strategy is part of the “W.I.T.S.”
program that has been taught in the district for
years, but new lesson plans will help teachers
incorporate the W.I.T.S. message into their language
arts and fine arts courses. The W.I.T.S. project
also involves the development of videos and comic
books featuring “WITSUP the Walrus”
and his cohorts who are all involved in advising
children on how to deal with aggression issues.
The
W.I.T.S. project is introduced in the classroom
by an uniformed police officer in a 45-minute
session. The police officer returns monthly and
is always available as a resource for questions
or problem solving.
